Hi friends. I am scheduled for PHR exam in may 2008 and all i have is PHR certification guide by Anne Bogardus. I have read lot of reviews and praises about HRM learning System but my problem is that I cannot afford it. And now I am so nervous. I feel that everyone is studying with SHRM learning system and passing exams but I wont coz i am just using one source. Can someone please help me. do i really need to buy SHRM learning system to pass. can anyone whos already passed the test lend this material to me and i'll return it back after my exam. please respond.

Hi
I took the PHR exam in 2004 and was not able to afford a brand new SHRM Learning System either. However, I was able to purchase a 2003 used system on e-bay, self studied, and passed. I would recommend checking e-bay or the HRCI thread on the SHRM website to see if anyone is selling a 2007 version. I have already donated my 2003 materials a couple of years ago, but they would be outdated by this time anyway. HRCI also offers free assessment exams on line. I found those very helpful because they are actual test questions and they explained why an answer was correct or incorrect. Hope that helps!
Best of luck to you!

You can also purchase the learning system from HRCP at HRCP.com. They have the same modules as the SHRM learning and the price is about $280 or so - still a lot of money, but much less than the SHRM learning system. You may also want to purchase the practice tests through CertGear. I facilitate a group study program for people preparing for the PHR/SPHR exam and have my participants use CertGear. the cost of these are between $49 and $69 depending on whether you are taking the PHR or SPHR. The best thing you learn through these practice tests is to read the questions thoroughly. Good luck.

I took the prep class through a local college in CT. Because the class was somewhat expensive, I researched whether the Dept of Labor would help fund the cost and found that the course was covered under the Workforce Investment Act (WIA). The cost of the class plus books was covered. I also spent a lot of time self studying.
