I passed the PHR yesterday. Here are some pointers: 1. Think of the BIG picture (i.e. strategically) 2. Know about the WARN Act 3. Know about work visas 4. Understand Affirmative Action 5. Remember that communication is important and that any questions that give you the option of eliciting management support choose it as your answer. I studied using the HRCP system, Ann's book, and Kaplan's practice tests. I also found a study partner who had the most current SHRM learning system and was thankful I did as there were a lot of new laws not covered in the other books. Lastly, I spent an extra $70 and purchased HRCI's practice tests. They were somewhat helpful in determining "where i stood" percentage wise in passing the test, but I did not like the fact that after taking the test it did not tell you what you missed. I overstudied the caselaw. I had no questions on caselaw whatsoever. However, do study the number employees you need to have certain laws apply and also know document retention timelines. I'm curious to see how many else passed/didn't pass. I honestly had no feel for how I was doing on the test until I hit the submit button. Good luck!
