| I just took the PHR test and failed. I used the SHRM learining center books and CD. The test questions were nothing like the questions on the SHRM CD. I had about 20 questions that were directly from SHRM and that was it. My new plan of action is to purchase the HRCI Guide and record the portions I am unfamiliar with and play them to myself while driving in my car. That will give me at least 1 hour of study time daily. Also, there were questions on the test that I had never heard of. I would not only use one book to study by, but use several. You may want to go to your local library and see if they have any of the study guides. |

| Sometimes you do not pass on your first try. I think the best thing to do is use different sources. I am using 2008 SHRM program and a PHR study guide. Also, get people who took the test and passed to probe you on questions. In any event, I reside in NC and could do some instant messaging for preparation for the exam.. Good Luck everyone! |

I took the SHRM class and religiously studied for 1 quarter. The SHRM material looks nothing like the actual test questions - the test questions / answers are so ambiguous (part of the CHALLENGE is UNDERSTANDING what the possible answers mean). As soon the test started I became frustrated b/c it WAS not testing my knowledge or experience.
It's clear that they do this to get repeat customers. I have 8 years of experience in HR and have a BS in HR Management / MBA in Economics. I have never found an exam so confusing.
My opinion - put the money for the study materials in an ING account - the value in 5 years will be greater a possible increase in salary for having your certificaiton. What a joke. |

I tood the SHRM Today and PASSED! I was very nervous, but settled down once the test started.
I have the SHRM Learning System - all 6 modules, cd, the SPHR Prep book and the 2008 Certification Handbook. These books are in VERY good condition, with no marks or highlights. As you all know these sell for $675. If you would be interested in buying these gently used books, please email me at jewelry_miss@bellsouth.net and let me know what you consider a fair price.
I also have Anne Bogardus study guide and cd from 2007. This book has a few highlighted sections, but all is legible.
Good luck to all!

| Hi! I used the SHRM Learning System and also took the two practice exams offered by HRCI. I scored 72 and 75 on the practice exams after months of studying. I just took the PHR today and passed. Don't know how much I passed by yet, but it was a pass! I thought the PHR was quite detailed (ie - if you're using SHRM, study it all). Suprisingly, the law cases were not on the exam (thank God!). Good luck to you! |

| I took the test today, and FAILED! It amazes me that I could pass the SHRM website tests, and fail the exam. The test questions were NOTHING like the practice questions...it was mostly strategic management, and scenarios with answers that were closely related. What a nightmare! |

Hello all! I sat for the PHR today and PASSED! To say that I am trilled in an understatement. I used the SHRM learning system and my suggestion would be to study it ALL. I read each book twice as well as completed all of the CDROM tests and flashcards.
I see many folks on this site saying that the questions on the test are not the questions on the shrm learning systerm. Of course they are not! This test is not measuring your ability to memorize questions, it is teating you actual understanding of the material. If you know the data, it will not matter how the question is phrased.
With that being said there where some items on the test that were not reviewed in detail in the shrm materials. For that reason, I would suggest looking into other sources of information in addition to the shrm materials to ensurte that you have a holistic understanding of the body of knowledge. |

Hi,
I Just took my PHR exam on 16th Jan 09 & passed at the 1st attempt. Though the exam was tough by all means however I feel that studying with SHRM Learning System helped me to succeed in the 1st attempt.
Imp thing to remember is that though for each question we have 4 options to chose from, it is sometimes very difficult to chose the right answer as 3 out of 4 may be right as well. We have to chose the best & closest answer to match.
I have SHRM 2008 learning system with 6 books + the CD which is in mint condition. Since I have passed my exam, I am ready to pass them on. If there is someone interested in buying the same let me know.
I would be happy to answer any other questions you have on the EXAM or the learning system
Thanks & All The Best !! |

I am scheduled to take the exam on 1/24 and have been nervous and now Im really not feeling great after reading that the SHRM course may not be the best method of studying. The instructor clearly broke down the percentages of what will be on the exam but is it really 70% strategic mgmt???? Are the questions based off of the more common theories or the small details within each theory? Im having a tough time with the total rewards and labor sections but I just purchased the certgear material and its is similiar to the SHRM material so hoping they do the trick since my scores on some the practice tests are not great....Good luck everyone!
PS I may be selling my system upon completion of the test, that is if i pass... =) Will post the info after the test. |

| I took the PHR last Wednesday (01/04/09) and passed. I took the Prep Course through Chapman using the SHRM Learning System. I finished the class in November, didn't study in December, and then re-read all six modules over the first two weeks in January. I took all the practice tests on the CD. I do remember having two questions on specific case law, several questions on regulations (OSHA, etc.), a couple questions on the charts (PERT, etc.), a question on visas, two questions requiring use of the calculator one for turnover and something else, and a couple questions on quality theories. The majority were not so specific and very much asking for the BEST or the FIRST of several correct answers. I don't know yet how well I did, only that I passed, but I completed the test in 90 minutes and was the first one done in the testing center. Once I was a couple questions in and settled down I actually thought the exam questions were easier than the parctice questions. |
