Benefit of SPHR Certification

My employer encourages all the HR folks to get certified, and this past year they were really pressing us. I avoided it because I have a Master's of Science in Industrial Psychology/Organizational Behavior from a top 10 program. I conducted original research over a two year period, then wrote my thesis. I then had to defend it in front of the faculty and it took me over three hours to do so. So I figured my academic qualifications and more than 13 years of applied HR experience were more than enough to be considered an HR professional. My opinion is that the SPHR will not get you any more money or help you advance your career, but it is rapidly becoming a credential tha all HR people need. In other words, having the PHR/SPHR credential may not help you, but not having it will definitely hurt you, especially when looking for a new position.</div><br><br>
